I’ve returned to America for a month-long visit and will be updating from March. Bare with me as there is a ton of new stuff to add. Feel free to poke around the old blogs and read the new ones. There are A LOT!

In 2008 I participated in a cultural exchange program with a university in East Asia. I enjoyed my time and really came to love the culture and the people, so much so that I decided to come back for a whole year! Now that I have completed my first year, I decided to stay for yet another year – so the adventures continue.

You are invited to join me in the adventures that come with readjusting to a completely different culture and all the drama that this life holds.

Happy Birthday To ME

When my parents asked me what I wanted for my birthday this year, it was easy – or so I thought. I only wanted to see them in Thailand in January. I was told that while that would happen, I still had to receive a few presents because I just had to have something to open on my actually birthday. I thought long and hard and came up with a small list to be shared among my family. They all got together and mailed the presents before Thanksgiving, so I have been staring at the presents for a couple of weeks – taunting me!

I had made plans with my parents to Skype after my language lesson for the week to open presents and such. I got a call that morning from my teacher saying that my lesson was cancelled because she had to attend a meeting just after I had finished getting ready for class. I contemplated getting back into my pajamas and in bed, but I decided against it so got on Skype and told my parents that I didn’t have class. They promptly got OFF Skype. I was a little confused, but figured that they just wanted to wait until Grandma could come over to open the presents. I busied myself until our pre-arranged time. I opened my presents with them online and just as I had opened my last present – Roy William’s new book – they stepped aside and my friends were standing there! I was absolutely floored by the surprise, and began to cry. I was so nice to see them and catch up with what was going on in their lives and to update them on what has been going on here. They even had a cake and blew out my candles.

It was such a blessing! The year I was expecting to be my worst birthday ever has turned out to be one of the best birthdays.
